Welcome from Head of the Department
Civil Engineering is one of the core engineering disciplines, which involves planning, design, construction, maintenance and management of structures or public works, like bridges, roads, canals and water supply systems. The department of Civil Engineering, MSIT comprises of experienced as well as young dedicated faculty members. All the faculty members are highly qualified, having graduated from reputed Government institutes and most of them with additional industrial experience. The department has well equipped laboratories, state of art computer facilities and a perfect ambience for research work. The faculties of the department are involved in regular consultancy work. The department has highly experienced technical assistants with industrial experience. The setting up of Student Chapters of the Institution of Engineers (India) and the Institution of Civil Engineers has further motivated the undergraduate students aspiring for research and higher studies.
The department takes care of the overall development of the students by weekly mentoring system, which in turn facilitates their development into good human being and responsible civil engineers. Guided by industrial requirements, beyond curriculum courses are delivered through extensive assignments, project works and much more. Our department encourages students to attend seminars, conferences and regular entrepreneurship programs. Students are also encouraged to take up research based projects and publish their works conference and journal papers. Students are provided guidance to appear for GATE and other competitive examinations like IES, WBPSC, etc. Many students of our department have participated in National technical events organized by different colleges and won prizes.
The alumni of this department are well placed in academia, multinationals and in government and private sector. We have an Alumni Committee, comprising of alumni, placed in reputed companies like L&T, Simplex, SPCL, GDCL, Fluor Daniel etc. or involved in research works in reputed National & International universities, IITs and IISCs. This alumni committee provides unique opportunities for aspiring students by sharing their skills and experiences. We have recently applied for NBA accreditation of our undergraduate program. We try our best to produce responsible civil engineers with good ethics, to serve our nation and across the entire world.

Industrial Training
The students are encouraged to take internship program during their semester break. Faculty members give their guidelines, suggestions and scope and contact details of an internship. The Training and Placement Coordinator of the department with the help of Training and Placement Cell of the institute helps the students by interacting with the industrial experts, provide the students recommendation letters and other necessary supports. The Training and Placement Coordinator of the department also constantly interacts with alumni who are working in the industries and request them to provide necessary guidelines and supports for their junior’s internship. The objective behind this initiative is as follows:
To provide students the right platform to start a career with a firm footing which ultimately enhance their employability.
To interface academia with industries and bridge the gap between the demand and supply of human resources.
To provide training for specific skill sets that help in leveraging the growing service sectors such as construction and design industry and government sectors.

Student Projects
As per the university curriculum, all final year undergraduate students undertake projects (Paper codes: CE (PROJ) 792, CE (PROJ) 882 which are spread over a period of two semesters. The course aims at providing an all-round exposure to the students, including finding solutions to real world technical problems, in the domain of Civil Engineering. The project course work allows the students to choose a specific area of interest and have a better understanding in that area; utilizing the technical know-how they have gained from different activities conducted throughout the curriculum such as class room lectures, training programs, industrial trainings, technical talks etc. Project work makes students capable of working in time bound manner. It also trains them to work as individual or in a team and improves their leadership, presentation, and communication skills etc. The Departmental Project Evaluation Committee (DPEC) allocates, monitors, and evaluates the student projects.
Evaluation Process for the Projects
A three-stage evaluation process is carried out for the projects throughout the semester. In the first stage, the projects are evaluated based on the quality of the project proposals. In the secondstage the progress of the project is reviewed and evaluated in the middle of the semester. The end semester evaluation is carried out through report submission, presentation of the project before a panel of experts followed by a question-answer session.
